PIONEERING BEST IN CLASS COMMUNITY BASED REGENERATION WORK IN BLUE CARBON FORESTRY
What is GMT ?
Our Mission
Empowering communities to deploy self-financing regenerative easements around all the mangroves on Earth.
[2021] Launch of Mangrove Project in North Sumatra

Global Mangrove Trust (GMT), in collaboration with Yayasan Gajah Sumatera (YAGASU), initiated the GMT restoration & conservation project in North Sumatra, Indonesia (001-OxC) in 2021, protecting virgin and degraded mangrove areas with four villages implementing pre-defined Avoided Deforestation Activities.
These have a direct positive impact on the environment, biodiversity, climate, and livelihoods. 001-OxC is the pilot blue carbon project verified by the Kumi Analytics Carbon Sequestration Assessment Tool (KACSAT) with credit issuance under Oxcarbon Principles and the IHS Markit registry.

How We Work
Transparency
Enrich the link between donors and projects with tools for tracking funds and performance.
Efficiency
Maximize the impact of each sponsorship dollar through scalable, automated funding logics.
Husbandry
Provide conservation rewards to ensure communities protect their forests over the long-term.
Crafting a Novel Blue Carbon Verification and Financing Solution
Together with Kumi Analytics and OxCarbon Standard, we are employing pathbreaking sequestration assessment methodologies based on space-based impact verification. KACSAT makes verification quick, accurate, transparent and real time, while machine learning makes validation more accurate and robust at very high scales.
Partnership
Working with Marex, Kumi Analytics and The Smith School of Enterprise & Environment
Miracle Mangroves
Mangroves are truly miracles of nature. They form GREEN SHIELDS, protecting coastal communities from rising seas, storms, and even tsunamis. Their roots form a living lattice for coastal food webs and provide breeding grounds for baby fish and crustaceans and protection for a wealth of flora, fauna, and birdlife. Their roots filter the water, reducing pollution, lowering salinity, and helping flora and fauna to thrive. As the forests grow, they prevent erosion and help reclaim land from the sea by capturing sediment from run-off to form new earth. In addition, mangroves form GREEN LUNGS, producing massive amounts of oxygen and sequestering ten times more carbon than temperate forests
