Marex Recognised as Voluntary Carbon Markets House of the Year

We are proud to celebrate our finance partner, Marex, being recognised as Voluntary Carbon Markets House of the Year at the Energy Risk Awards 2025. The award highlights the success of the long-standing partnership between Marex and Global Mangrove Trust, using our blue carbon project in North Sumatra as a leading example of how high-integrity voluntary carbon markets can deliver meaningful climate, biodiversity and community outcomes.

Since partnering in 2021, Marex and Global Mangrove Trust have worked together to design and finance a project that protects and restores mangrove ecosystems while creating high-quality carbon credits backed by rigorous science, transparent governance and independent verification. The project has also demonstrated how carbon finance can generate tangible benefits for local communities through sustainable livelihoods, environmental education and community-led development initiatives.

The article highlights the project’s continued growth, including the expansion of restoration activities, the issuance of more than 100,000 high-quality carbon credits by the end of 2024, and the integration of innovative approaches such as independent carbon insurance and advanced remote sensing. It also recognises the collaborative efforts of implementation partners and technical experts who have helped build a credible, scalable model for blue carbon project development.

This recognition reflects the strength of cross-sector collaboration in advancing high-integrity nature-based solutions and reinforces the role of blue carbon projects in supporting both climate action and resilient coastal communities.
