As we step into 2024, Global Mangrove Trust (GMT) proudly embarks on an impactful initiative to plant 80,000 trees across Pulau Kampai, Pangkalan Siata, and Halaban. Our journey began in August 2023 when we funded nurseries in Pulau Kampai and Pangkalan Siata. This effort, in collaboration with Yagasu and local community groups, has led to nurturing 80,000 mangrove seedlings, currently three months old and flourishing in the nurseries.

These seedlings, free from diseases and displaying vigorous growth, are set to be planted in Q1-2024. The plantation will span across 32.37 hectares, encompassing three villages Pulau Kampai, Pangkalan Siata, and Halaban, thereby creating a significant environmental impact. This initiative is not just about planting trees; it’s about rejuvenating natural habitats, improving air quality, and fostering a deep connection with nature within these communities.

Our lead Impact Analyst, Mohamed Els. Abdelwareth, reflects this sentiment, stating,

“Each tree we plant is a testament to our commitment to the environment and the well-being of these communities. Through this project, we are not only enhancing the natural landscape but also instilling a sense of environmental stewardship among the villagers.

This endeavor exemplifies our commitment to ecological restoration and community engagement. By involving local groups in every step, we ensure that the benefits of this project are deeply rooted in the community, providing lasting environmental and social benefits.

Join us in this significant journey towards ecological balance and community empowerment. Your support and participation can help us extend our impact and bring about real change in these villages and beyond.
